What you understand about human movement is wrong.

It turns out we've been wrong about human movement for a very long time. What do you think moves the human body? Most people would probably say muscles. You would be wrong or at lease not completely right. You would be leaving out the main tissue responsible for transmitting the forces generated by the muscle and individual motor units. You would be missing out on the piece that beautifully distributes the forces into fluid efficient motion. You would be forgetting the fascia!

Fascia is a complex network that is integrated into every part of your body. It is made up of strings, bags and sheets that are capable of transmitting the forces generated by your muscles throughout your body. Research on fascia is on the rise and we have only scratched the surface of this wonderous system. We may have been going about managing chronic pain of the musculoskeletal system all wrong. Our focus has typically been on the muscles but maybe we should be looking more closely at the connective tissue and how dysfunction here is possibly the cause of pain and poor movement patterns. Just some food for thought.

Thanks for spending you precious time reading this post. I very much appreciate it and hope you learned something. Until next time.
